KOMU-TV to go HD

KOMU-TV 8, the University of Missouri owned NBC affiliate in Columbia, Missouri, is scheduled to launch in HD Friday in time for the 2008 Olympics.

KOMU-TV is located in DMA 137, making it one of the lower DMA stations to launch in HD. The change will bring about new graphics and major changes to their weather coverage.

“It’s an exciting time at KOMU 8,” said KOMU 8 General Manager Marty Siddall.  “Moving to high definition has been a major endeavor that has been years in the making, all to bring our viewers the clearest, sharpest and most precise images”

A source at the station commented that a new set is in the works for 2009 along with a possible new graphics package to match.

Along with new graphics,KOMU-TV will be implementing a new weather system from WSI. The new HD weather system will bring HD radar to DMA 137 and provide live radar from the eye of the storm.

“KOMU 8 will be the first and only mid-Missouri television station to broadcast local news, weather and sports in high definition.  KOMU 8 is also launching Live Doppler 8 First Alert Weather, mid-Missouri’s first LIVE high definition radar.  And in the morning, KOMU 8 News Today will now be the first local news of the day, beginning at 4:30 a.m. ”

KOMU-TV is located in NewscastStudio’s new hometown just minutes from our offices.
