Media companies establishing Twitter policies

The BBC and Sky News have released policies dictating the use of Twitter and other social media platforms.

According to Mashable, both Sky News and BBC released social media guidelines this week, while CNN is dealing with comments contributor Roland Martin made on Twitter during the Super Bowl.

Under the new BBC rules, staffers are directed to not tweet about a story until after it has been filed, an effort to make sure stories still get into the editorial process and social media stream as quickly as possible, according to The Guardian.

Meanwhile, Sky News released a policy instructing correspondents to not retweet content from competitors and avoid retweeting stories outside of their beats or areas of expertise.

So far CNN hasn’t gone on record with any specific policies, but it has suspended Martin.
