ABC O&Os roll out new WX apps

ABC’s eight owned and operated stations are offering new weather apps to viewers.

The new apps, released Thursday, offer audio alerts of impending severe weather and a “follow me” feature that lets viewers check forecasts and radar while traveling outside their home market.

The app is available free for both iOS and Android devices on the App Store and in Google Play.

Here’s part of the statement ABC released announcing the new apps:

The new Weather App features more than the usual weather notifications, offering voice alerts that warn users of severe weather. This innovative app also has a “follow me anywhere” setting that allows users to get the latest radar and weather information wherever they travel. In addition it allows users to select three static locations for free, displays temperature, animated radar and weather alerts, and very simple one-step social sharing.
“The Weather App continues our tradition of using technology to help our millions of viewers, who depend on ABC’s top-rated stations for critical information,” said Carpenter. “Not only does this app alert users to inclement weather wherever they are, but it allows users to get the latest information, alerts and a live look at the weather their friends and family are facing across the country. And when our stations are broadcasting news or severe weather information, app users can see it live on their smartphones.”
