‘Will & Grace’ goes back in time with holiday episode’s production design

Production designers, including set decorator Peter Gurski and set dressers Matt Center, Peter Ayala, Thomas Welch and Eric Pierson did, however, keep some subtle nods to the layout of Will’s apartment — replacing the kitchen on the far left of the set with a oversized bar and bookshelf. The 1912 set also had wall sconces placed in roughly the same locations as on the 2017 set.

The small TV room in the modern day apartment, meanwhile, appears as a sort of small library or reading nook.

Furniture arrangement was also used to hint at the basic layout of the modern apartment — such as the low backless couch and table where Fanny enjoys Oreos (or, as she calls them, “Or-ay-ohs”) being placed in the same location as the living room sofa and coffee table in the modern look (incidentally, in case you were wondering, Oreos were introduced in 1912).

The set also featured a portrait of Debbie Reynolds, who had played Grace’s mother Bobbie Adler in multiple episodes of the show’s previous iteration. Reynolds died Dec. 28, 2016.
