How the networks covered the royal wedding

BBC

BBC News, whose coverage also aired on BBC America, took a unique approach to its open, using George the Poet on screen reading “The Beauty of Union” with numerous parts of St. George’s Chapel architecture behind him and carefully edited together.

Before George the Poet’s reading, the network used a soft but elegant musical bed over a full screen graphic inspired by metallic embossed ink, similar to the look used in its promos.

After the reading, the network used a teal and gold animation that combined dramatic angles and animation to form its “The Royal Wedding” title card, which mirrored the printed ink wedding invitation style.

BBC’s main setup, meanwhile, was an open air platform along a street of the town of Windsor with the castle visible to one side.

Surrounding the teal and gold riser were intricate iron railings with candy striped poles in a teal, violet and white pattern. Two large violet and gold sofas were used for the hosts and guests.

Also included were strings of white and teal pennants which, along with the crowds lining the street of the historic buildings and Union Jack banners, created the vibe of a street festival.
