Super Tuesday: The lower thirds

It’s interesting to note the variety of lower third formatting the networks used for Super Tuesday. CBS took a simplistic approach rather than try to cram a lot of information into the lower portion of the screen. The graphics also included large, bold numbers that made the data easy to read.

On the other hand, MSNBC had a fairly simple lower third that look up much less space, but combined that with an additional sidebar graphic that would appear during select times to further highlight information. MSNBC also sported a rather large poll closing countdown clock that seemed to take up a little too much space, but was an interesting strategy to keep viewers to stay tuned.

Fox News Channel was using a multi-tiered graphic that presented multiple levels of data.
