On Tuesday’s edition of “NBC Nightly News,” Brian Williams appeared on a camera in shot that I personally haven’t seen before. It seemed to be slightly off-axis than the typical straight-on shot through the studio window into the newsroom.
One of the dominant elements of the shot is one of the rectangular support structures with a matching silver-toned NBC peacock mounted on it.
One possible reason for this shot, if it is indeed new, is that MSNBC’s “The Ed Show” is now produced from the New York studios during the first feed of Nightly News. Previously the 6 p.m. ET hour was produced from Washington, D.C. with David Shuster. Remember that the Ed Show uses the newsroom’s monitor array to mimic audio board spikes, which could be a bit distracting if seen in the background.
That said, Wednesday’s edition of Nightly News used the straight-on shot with host Ed Shultz and his crew clearly visible, along with the bold colors of the monitor wall.
No it didn’t, I thought this was from Wednesday night actualy. They used this same exact technique last night.
