Lighter and cleaner look for NBC Charlotte

NBC Charlotte has redefined its look with the help of James Yates Production Design and NewscastStudio has exclusive first looks at additional photos and renderings.

“The intended look is a lighter, cleaner presentation inspired by the new station branding package,” said Yates.

The new set debuted last Monday and features a large working weather center, standup area and a four-person anchor desk.

This was the first local news set for Yates in the U.S., having designed two in Canada. Yates is no stranger to television set design, working on projects for ESPN, Fox News, Fox Business News and Global TV.

Included on the set are 22 monitors, including two 80″ monitors in the anchor and standup area. The walls of the set feature backlit color-changing plexi, allowing multiple color options for each newscast.

The anchor desk is also configurable with a modular docking unit “to enable face-to-face discussions with reporters and guests.”

Blue graphics were applied to the floor of the studio to match the set design and to help complete the overall look. This small detail helps set the project apart, adding another layer of depth to the set.

Overall, the set is clean and integrates well with the look of WCNC-TV.
