Vistas Unlimited has created “virtual insertion technology” to add ads or graphic elements to live sports coverage.

PBS’s ‘NewsHour’ getting new look
The New York Times has an article about the upcoming revamp of “The NewsHour With Jim Lehrer” on PBS.
The show, which has existed in its current format since 1983, is expected to receive a new logo and graphics package along with changing its name to “PBS NewsHour.” No word on if the set will be replaced, though the current sets are better suited for single anchor or moderator type setups — which could be an issue with the new co-anchor and newsreader format. There is also no word if the show’s highly recognizable theme music will be changed.
It should be interesting to see what the new look entails for a show that’s a notorious holdout in the area of set design and graphics — having only seen a few changes to its on-air look in the 20-plus years it’s been on the air. The current set, dominated by world map and tiled logo backgrounds, is rather plain, though certainly tasteful. For years, the show relied heavily on blue backgrounds with red and white accents in both the graphics and set, though the most recent iteration added a bit more color.
