Updated: Sneak peak of Democratic Convention set

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

The Democratic National Convention has posted the REAL photos of this year’s convention set (we previously posted another photo but, due to bad information from our source, it was actually of the 2004 set).

This year’s set is in fact, much better. The set is stocked with massive panels that are most likely LED panels. Framing this are large lighted columns and trusswork that spider out above the set.

WBOC-TV and FX Group bring a newsplex to life

Monday, August 18th, 2008

WBOC-TV in tiny DMA 147, Salisbury, Md., has built a new Newsplex that rivals those of WHDH-TV and WSVN-TV.

The new Newsplex features a anchor desk that can rotate 300 degrees and has four 42-inch HD monitors along with many, many, many smaller HD monitors.

WJAC-TV in Johnstown sporting new look

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

New site TVNewsInsider tipped us off that WJAC-TV, the NBC affiliate in Johnstown, Pa., has a new set.

The new set was designed by FX Group, and is similar to ones already installed at WFTV-TV in Orlando, Fla., KIRO-TV in Seattle and WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Using a combination of wood and silver and blue highlights, the new set is full of clean lines and reflects the simplified look Cox stations tend to favor in both their sets and graphics.

Some new additions, however, include a new take on the weather presentation desk (WFTV-TV and WPXI-TV both elected to keep their existing weather centers designed by BDI) and a curved standup area with plasma screen. Another new touch is the station’s logo emblazoned on plexiglass panels that are mounted to the wall.

After years of planning and preparing, KOMU-TV in Columbia, Missouri has launched in HD.

For the HD launch, KOMU-TV decided to revise their current graphics package with some small updates to allow an easy transition for viewers and employees.

KOMU-TV is one of a handful of stations operated by colleges and one of the only college run stations to be backed by a major network. KOMU-TV is also the third smallest DMA station to launch in HD.
