Share your ideas for future ‘Tip’ columns
Thursday, July 8th, 2010

What aspects of producing TV newscasts do you think need improved? Have a neat new way of doing something in the newsroom?

Share them with us and they might be featured in a future NewcastTip column!

Even though the column is taking a bit of a summer vacation, that doesn’t mean we’re not planning ahead — and we want to hear your ideas for future columns. E-mail your thoughts, suggestions and ideas to michael.hill@newscaststudio.com. Any feedback is welcome — whether it’s an idea for a future column, a problem you run in to frequently that you’re not sure how to solve, a specific tip or trick you’d like to share, or a personal pet peeve about TV news that you’d like us to address.

NewscastStudio’s blog recently added its 1,000th post — an entry about an error made on a Fox News Channel graphic.

The NewscastStudio blog launched Jan. 6, 2008 and has been informing thousands of readers a week on the latest in television news creative services ever since.

Since its inception, the blog has scored exclusive first-looks at a variety of stories, including the new CNN Atlanta set. The blog has also run several exclusive series, including one on NBC Artworks (part 1, part 2, part 3), virtual set company Brainstorm (part 1, part 2, part 3) and a behind-the-scenes look at set fabrication company Lexington (part 1, part 2, part 3).

Here’s to the next 1,000 posts!

NBC testing ‘Nightly News Now’ for mobile devices
Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Via WebNewser, NBC is testing a new web update newscast called “Nightly News Now.”

The one to two minute long program recaps the day’s news in a format designed for mobile devices.

For the moment “Nightly News Now” is being tested out on the weekends, with Lester Holt anchoring. The plan is to monitor the response to the webcast, with the possibility of expanding it down the line.

MSNBC for a while has put web only video on its site, complete with an anchor intro from a news nook. We’ll see if this catches on, but at the moment it could use some more polishing.

No NewscastInspiration newsletter this week
Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

As you may have read in last week’s NewscastInpsiration newsletter, I’ve been having some dental issues lately. I’ve been in and out of oral surgery twice in the past two weeks now and, honestly, it’s taken a lot of out of me. I also have family coming in to town and would like to be able to focus on getting ready for them.

Because of this, I’m taking Thursday and Friday of this week off from both NewscastStudio and our sister sites TV News Insider and Smudged Newsprint. That means there won’t be a newsletter sent out Friday and we won’t, barring any breaking news, be updating TV News Insider or Smudged Newsprint.

The NewscastStudio Blog will be updated as warranted.

I apologize for any inconvenience and hope to be back to full steam soon!
