Gannett offering two versions of Pyburn graphics to stations

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

Gannett, who earlier this year selected Chryon’s Axis to power its newly centralized graphics operations, will begin testing the new system in unspecified markets.

The stations will all begin using the same graphics package, designed by Pyburn Films, but will have a choice in either a red or blue toned version.

This means the station’s existing graphics packages, including fairly recent HD-ready ones by Giant Octopus are out.

Day-to-graphics will be handled via Axis’ Web-based system while more advanced graphic work and promos will be handled by a central facility in Denver.

As reported in Broadcasting & Cable, Gannett Broadcasting and Chyron have reached a multiyear deal to use Chyron’s new Axis system.

The axis system allows stations to work on graphics using a simple online interface and requires less computer power and specialized software.

Chyron enters Web-based graphics realm

axis.jpgFollowing the acquisition of AXIS Graphics earlier this year, Chyron has launched a new online division, providing web-based services to enable high resolution maps, weather, charts and financial data display.

The Web-based nature of the AXIS offering allows users to quickly and easily create HD and SD quality graphics from any computer with high-speed Internet access.

The system allows for the creation of both OTS and full screen graphics with built-in access to data, maps and other media.
