‘Nightly’ adds social media, technology icons to close

“NBC Nightly News” has added Twitter, SMS, Facebook and Podcast icons to its closing copyright graphic, as shown above. The graphic also includes the “always on” tagline and the show’s Web site address.
Noticiero Telemundo added to SetStudio

We’ve added pictures of Noticiero Telemundo to SetStudio.
Noticiero Telemundo is the nightly news program of Telemundo and uses a very modern European styled set with many unique angles and lots of square elements.
‘Nightly’ switches pre-show tease background

We noticed “NBC Nightly News” has been using a different background for its pre-show teases.
NBC San Diego rebrands 6 o’clock news as ‘Nightly News’

From a NCS Tipster, NBC 7/39 in San Diego has launched a rebranded 6 pm newscast using the “Nightly News” brand. The new newscast, “NBC 7/39 San Diego Nightly News,” also debuted an updated graphics package, building on the established “Nightly” logo along with using some elements from the current NBC Artworks Look C package. ‘Nightly’ graphic goes sideways

Last night during “NBC Nightly News” a graphic was displayed while Brian Williams talked about AIG bonuses illustrating the amount of taxpayer money used, but the picture in the graphic was angled towards the wrong direction. The picture should have pointed upwards with the buildings risings up, instead they were crushing in on each other.
This could be for artistic reasons, but the picture could have been cropped to better use the box already on the graphic. Continue reading for another example of how the AIG graphics looked. (more…)
What’s going on with ‘Nightly’?

We’ve noticed that, for the past few weeks, when Brian Williams is absent from “NBC Nightly News,” the show is using some different camera angles that seems to suggest the show is originating from a different studio than the normally-used 3C.
Does anyone know what’s going on and why?
There seems to be a collection of images of the real “Nightly” set that are projected behind the anchor on an RP or other large sized monitor. What’s strange is that the angles being used don’t match the ones used on “Nightly” normally, such as the off-axis shot shown above, which is not easily shootable during the normal broadcast because of the desk layout.

New banner ad touts MSNBC.com’s branded sites

MSNBC.com recently began running a rectangle ad on the site homepage that showcases the individually-branded sites of Countdown, Nightly News, Scoop, Today, NBC Sports and recently-acquired Newsvine.
The ad allows users to click arrow buttons on either side of the container to show the next site screen shot, which appears after a quick transition effect.
This is a creative way to promote sites, but also runs the risk of being tuned out since it’s in the same position as regular ads normally are.
This also marks one of the first times MSNBC has promoted Newsvine. MSNBC has been linking to conversations and topic pages on Newsvine for select stories, but this marks one of the most prominent cross promotions.
‘Nightly’ sporting new 3D full screen graphics
“NBC Nightly News” recently rolled out some snazzy new 3D full screen graphics that are used when presenting numeric data and lists of information. The fully animated graphics are slightly darker than the rest of Nightly’s graphics, but seem to be very versatile in what they can be used for.
The graphics mark a major change from NBC’s longtime full screen look of simple black and gray boxes.

Where the penguins are
“Nightly News” used some file footage of penguins for a piece on the North Pole. Turns out there are no penguins in the Northern Hemisphere. From the “Daily Nightly”…
“A mea culpa and a thank you to the sharp-eyed Newsviners who wrote us (along with others) to tell us we had used file tape of penguins in a piece on the North Pole! There are no penguins on the North Pole. I must admit I was watching from home, and muted the sound to talk to a family member. Something registered, and I’d like to think I’m smart enough to have noticed. It was the visual equivalent of a kangaroo bouncing through Central Park.”
Nightly glitch
Tonight during “NBC Nightly News” live on location a glitch caused the Today Show bug to appear on top of the Nightly News graphics. The error was quickly fixed, but this shows what can happen when you broadcast live on location.

One must wonder how that happened, and if the broadcast was being produced fully back in New York or partly on location. Also during the newscast, Brian Williams’ microphone experienced technical problems.
