LiveU delivers 15,000 hours of World Cup coverage

LiveU helped broadcasters from around the world send over 15,000 hours of live video to soccer fans from the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

This was made possible via the 485 LiveU units on the ground in the country, overseen by local partner MediaProject Ltd. Those units were utilized by broadcasters from over 40 countries covering the games.

“This year’s FIFA World Cup has been more successful than ever, also for LiveU, combining our over 10 years’ experience covering major sporting events with our proven HEVC technology,” said Samuel Wasserman, LiveU’s CEO and Co-founder. “LiveU’s HEVC technology worked flawlessly throughout the tournament, showing its capabilities for live sports coverage in the most challenging conditions. Much of the customer feedback we received highlighted the optimal signal quality in and around the stadiums, as well as our portability and cost-effectiveness.”

LiveU notes that over 30,000 live sessions and 36TB of live transmission were logged during the event, well surpassing the last World Cup in 2014.

The company also had a dedicated team on the ground in Russia, helping manage and support customers at the event.
