Netflix prepping next news satire show, ‘Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj’

Netflix is expanding its weekly comedy-news universe with the addition of “Daily Show” alum Hasan Minhaj, who will host “Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj” this October.

Minhaj joined “The Daily Show” in 2014 as Jon Stewart’s last hire, continuing into the Trevor Noah reboot of the popular Comedy Central program.

While little beyond the show’s logo has been released by Netflix, the overall show will be similar to others in the satire news genre like “The Daily Show” or “The Opposition.”

A short teaser, showing Minhaj’s face and the show logo, mixes a patchwork of imagery from military drones to “fake moon landing” news headlines and even Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The initial branding uses Minhaj’s name to create an illusion to the American flag, appropriate given the show’s patriotic name,

“Patriot Act” has Jim Margolis, a veteran of the similar programming, as showrunner and executive producer, with Minhaj and co-creator Prashanth Venkataramanujam also serving as EPs along-side
Michelle Caputo and Shannon Hartman.

The show will debut Sunday, October 28.
