Andrea González joins Telemundo 49 Tampa as news anchor

Andrea González has joined Telemundo 49 Tampa, WRMD, as an anchor for Noticiero Telemundo 49, the NBCUniversal-owned station announced Monday, Aug. 24, 2026.

González arrives in Tampa, Florida, with more than 17 years of journalism experience in the United States and Mexico. She most recently anchored “Punto de Visión” for Visión Latina Network in Los Angeles.

Before that, González spent eight years at Univision 34 in Los Angeles, where she anchored the station’s 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts.

“Andrea is an accomplished journalist whose extensive anchoring and reporting experience makes her a strong addition to our newsroom,” Telemundo 49 News Director Meredith Veloz said in a statement. “Her commitment to journalism and ability to connect with Latino audiences will strengthen our news team, and we are excited to welcome her to Tampa Bay.”

González previously worked as Univision’s Mexico correspondent from 2014 to 2016. Her assignments included coverage of the disappearance of 43 students from Ayotzinapa and the prison escape of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.

Earlier in her career, she was lead anchor of the morning newscast “Info7” at TV Azteca Noreste.

González has received five Emmy Awards, including a 2019 regional Emmy for “Hollywood: The Sign That Changed History.” Her work also has been recognized in categories including newscasts, elections, breaking news and informational programming.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in communication from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City and is the author of “Latinas de Éxito,” a 2024 book featuring interviews with successful Latina women in the United States.
