Former television news anchor Angelynn Mock has been sentenced to life in prison for the stabbing death of her 80-year-old mother at their home in Wichita, Kansas, on Halloween 2025.

Mock, who was known on-air as Angi Mock, had a TV news career that included stops in St. Louis, Missouri, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Sedgwick County District Judge Jeffrey Goering imposed the sentence Monday, Oct. 5, 2026, nearly a year after the killing. Mock, who pleaded guilty to murder in August 2026, will be eligible for parole after serving 25 years.

Authorities said Mock stabbed her mother, Anita Avers, 12 times while Avers was in bed at their home on Oct. 31, 2025. Avers, a marriage and family therapist, was transported to a hospital, where she died from her injuries.

According to court documents, Mock believed her mother was the devil and that she needed to kill her.

Investigators also learned from Mock’s stepfather, who was married to Avers, that Mock had previously been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and experienced delusions.

The sentencing hearing included emotional testimony from Avers’ family members, who described the lasting impact of her death.

Sonja Kreutziger, Mock’s stepsister and Avers’ stepdaughter, told the court that she and her husband helped clean the home following the killing.

Kreutziger said the family attempted to restore the home after the killing but could not erase what had happened.

Mock, who previously worked as a television news anchor before leaving the broadcasting industry, told the court she would not appeal her conviction or sentence.

Mock, who worked professionally as Angie Mock, spent more than a decade in television news before leaving broadcasting in 2015.

Her most prominent positions included four years as a morning anchor at KTVI, the Fox affiliate in St. Louis, Missouri, from 2011 to 2015, and four years at KOKH in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she co-anchored the station’s weekday morning newscasts from 2007 to 2011.

At KOKH, she helped launch a two-hour morning program that eventually expanded to five hours.

Earlier in her career, Mock worked as a weekend sports anchor and reporter for NBC Montana, including KECI in Missoula, Montana, from 2004 to 2006. She also held reporting positions at KAAL in Austin, Minnesota, and KLKN in Lincoln, Nebraska, where she worked as a part-time sports reporter and photographer from 2002 to 2004.

After departing KTVI in 2015, Mock moved into business and technology sales.
