CBS Atlanta announced the launch of a weekday 5 p.m. newscast set to debut April 13, expanding its daily local news programming.

The broadcast will be anchored by Sharon Lawson, with meteorologist Dagmar Midcap and traffic reporter Orelon Sidney.

“We are excited to continue building CBS Atlanta since launching in August of last year,” said Tom Canedo, president and general manager, CBS Atlanta. “I’m proud that this team is continuing the CBS tradition of serving our community with content highlighting the stories that inform and inspire us all.”

The newscast marks an expansion of the station’s local news offerings as it continues to build out its newsroom and programming lineup.

“The 5 p.m. newscast is another meaningful expansion for CBS Atlanta,” said Shawn Hoder, vice president and news director, CBS Atlanta. “We’re continuing to grow our programming in a strategic, deliberate way as we build a strong local news offering in the market.”

The station said the addition reflects ongoing investment in local coverage and community-focused reporting.

Since launching its news and weather operations in August 2025, CBS Atlanta has expanded to include different dayparts and programming.
