Meteorologist Dagmar Midcap has left CBS-owned WUPA in Atlanta, Georgia, less than a year after returning to the market as part of the station’s newly established local news operation.
Midcap, who joined CBS Atlanta in late 2025, has not appeared on the station’s newscasts since May 2026. Her biography was removed from the station’s website in October 2026.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that neither Midcap nor WUPA has publicly explained her departure. Midcap did not respond to the newspaper’s requests for comment, while CBS Atlanta News Director Shawn Hoder declined to discuss the matter.
The departure ends a homecoming that had attracted attention when Midcap joined WUPA after approximately 15 years away from the Atlanta television market.
She was recruited as an evening meteorologist during the launch of CBS Atlanta’s local news operation, which began producing newscasts in 2025 after the CBS affiliation moved from Gray Media’s WANF to WUPA.
Midcap was among the recognizable personalities brought aboard as CBS established a newsroom and introduced newscasts using augmented and virtual reality technology.
Her return was particularly notable because of her previous popularity at WGCL, now WANF, where she worked from 2008 until 2010.
Midcap left Atlanta in 2010 following the death of her boyfriend. She subsequently relocated to California, eventually joining NBC-owned KNSD in San Diego, California, where she spent approximately 12 years forecasting weather.
After leaving KNSD, Midcap devoted more time to international travel and environmental reporting, particularly documenting wildlife conservation efforts and illegal animal trafficking.
She returned to the Atlanta area in 2025 and accepted a position with WUPA as the station expanded its local news presence.
In a March 2026 interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Midcap said the workplace environment being developed by Hoder had influenced her decision to join the station.
Hoder praised her ability to connect with viewers, saying her on-air personality reflected how she interacted with people outside the studio.
Midcap also expressed interest in producing stories about environmental issues, climate change and animal welfare, subjects she had explored during her time in San Diego.
However, her assignments at CBS Atlanta remained primarily focused on weather forecasting.
Her absence from the station became noticeable in late spring. By July 2026, Midcap had been off the air for more than a month, prompting questions from viewers.
At the time, a CBS Stations spokesperson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Midcap remained employed by WUPA but did not explain why she was not appearing on television.
Meteorologist Orelon Sidney subsequently handled evening weather forecasts during Midcap’s absence.
On Oct. 14, 2026, WUPA promoted its “Next Weather” team on social media, featuring Jonathan Myers, Troy Bridges and Sidney. Midcap was not included.
The station has not announced a direct replacement for Midcap.
