ESPN’s Studio W was rebuilt as a flexible production space centered on large-scale LED displays, real-time graphics and virtual production. The studio includes more than 9,200 square feet of LED displays and more than 148 million pixels across its screens.

A purpose-built XR volume accounts for about 44.7 million pixels and can display virtual environments in real time. The design allows analysts to appear alongside large-scale 3D visualizations that are rendered as part of the physical studio environment.

Up to four Sony HDC-5500 cameras can shoot the same XR volume simultaneously, with each camera receiving its own synchronized perspective. ESPN and Disney engineers developed a custom rendering integration with Pixotope to coordinate camera tracking, LED displays and real-time data systems.

Studio W is the first ESPN facility in Bristol capable of 1080p HDR and UHD production and operates on a SMPTE ST 2110 infrastructure.

The 8,900-square-foot space was designed with Jack Morton Worldwide, while ESPN Creative Studio developed XR scenes, environmental graphics and related production workflows. The studio will serve as the home of “NFL Live” and will also support college football, NHL programming and “Fantasy Focus Countdown.” Studio W made its on-air debut August 29, 2026, during ABC college football halftime and wrap coverage and became the permanent home of “NFL Live” on Sept. 9.
