Spectrum News has announced the launch of new networks in Sacramento and San Francisco, along with a statewide California network aimed at expanding local news coverage across the state.
The expansion made Spectrum News available on all Spectrum TV and Xfinity TV lineups in California.
The company also announced that journalist and producer Lisa Ling joined Spectrum News as part of the expansion. Ling previously served as a contributor for CBS News and hosted “This is Life with Lisa Ling” on CNN.
“California is made up of distinct communities, but the issues shaping daily life are deeply interconnected,” Mike Bair, executive vice president of Spectrum Networks, said in a statement. “This expansion allows us to go deeper, telling more layered, purpose-driven stories, connecting what’s happening across state, and bringing audiences closer to the issues that matter most.”
Spectrum News said the San Francisco and Sacramento operations will include dedicated reporters focused on local coverage, weather updates and regional editions of the network’s “SN90” headlines segment. The statewide network will deliver California-focused coverage to viewers in markets including Bakersfield, Fresno, Palm Springs, San Diego, San Luis Obispo and Redding.
The company said its Los Angeles-based Spectrum News 1 network will continue serving Southern California viewers with local reporting.
Spectrum News also announced additions to its reporting staff, including Raquel Maria Dillon and Jack Molmud in San Francisco, Muna Sadek in Sacramento and Brent Cannon in Fresno. Additional journalists are expected to be based in Palm Springs, San Diego, San Francisco and San Luis Obispo.
Programming across the California networks includes “California Stories,” a statewide expansion of “LA Stories with Giselle Fernandez,” political program “Inside the Issues” hosted by Amrit Singh and public affairs program “In Focus: California” hosted by Tanya McRae.
Spectrum News said the expansion builds on recent launches that included Spectrum News+, Spectrum Noticias and connected TV news apps for Xumo Stream Box, Roku and Apple TV platforms.
