CNN sets live coverage for Aug. 12 solar eclipse

CNN will provide live coverage of the Aug. 12, 2026, solar eclipse with a two-hour special featuring reporting from across Europe and analysis from the network’s weather and science teams.

The special will air from 1 to 3 p.m. ET as part of “CNN News Central,” anchored by Brianna Keilar and Boris Sanchez. Coverage will also air on CNN International and stream on the CNN app for subscribers.

The eclipse will be visible across portions of Greenland, Iceland, northern Russia, Spain and Portugal, with CNN positioning correspondents along and near the path of totality.

Clarissa Ward will report from Mallorca, Spain, from the path of totality, while Saskya Vandoorne will cover the partial eclipse from Paris. Isa Soares will provide updates from Cornwall, U.K., and Derek Van Dam will explain the weather conditions and science surrounding the event.

CNN is also using the eclipse as another opportunity to expand its live-event streaming coverage. The network said space-related events have attracted significant audiences since the launch of its All Access streaming offering, with coverage of NASA’s Artemis II mission launch in April ranking among its top five days for qualified viewers.

Additional eclipse content will be available to CNN subscribers through the CNN app, while weather updates will be offered through the CNN Weather app. The live special will also be available to eligible streaming and pay TV subscribers through CNN.com and CNN’s connected TV and mobile apps.
