Police in Bakersfield, California, are investigating two shootings at the studios of Sinclair-owned KBAK and KBFX after gunfire struck the television station building twice within four days.

The first incident occurred Friday evening, Oct. 9, 2026, when 10 shots were fired into the building, striking a conference room and an office, according to the station. A second shooting occurred early Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, when additional gunfire struck the facility.

No employees were injured in either incident, according to the station and local authorities.

The shootings took place at the stations’ studios at 1901 Westwind Drive, where KBAK, the CBS affiliate, and KBFX, the Fox affiliate, operate a shared news operation.

Surveillance footage released in connection with the investigation shows a black vehicle approaching the station building and stopping nearby.

The vehicle remains in place for approximately two minutes before several muzzle flashes appear near the driver’s side window. The vehicle then leaves the area.

The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating both incidents. Authorities have not publicly identified a suspect or established whether the same person was responsible for both shootings.

Sinclair confirmed the initial shooting and said it was working with investigators while taking steps to protect station employees.

“We are cooperating fully with the Bakersfield Police Department as it investigates a shooting incident at our KBAK-KBFX studios Friday evening,” Sinclair spokesperson Jessica Belluci said in a statement.

“Thankfully, no one was injured. The safety and well-being of our employees is our top priority, and we are taking appropriate steps to ensure a safe and secure workplace. We appreciate the efforts of local law enforcement as the investigation continues.”

The station has continued providing news coverage while cooperating with the police investigation.

Although the motive remains unknown, the incidents highlight the security challenges facing television stations, where newsrooms, production facilities and other workspaces may be located near exterior walls and windows.

Anyone with information about either shooting is asked to contact the Bakersfield Police Department at 661-327-7111.
