Ultra Violet: Celebrating Pantone’s Color of the Year with a look at purple palettes

The color experts at Pantone have announced that “Ultra Violet” — a deep violet-purple shade — is 2018’s color of the year.

Pantone makes an annual pick for color of the year, a decision that is based on current and forecasted trends in design as well as current social and political landscape. 

In honor of Pantone’s pick, here’s a look at some notable uses of violet shades in broadcast design.

‘Today’ goes purple for Prince

On April 22, 2016, NBC News‘ “Today Showswitched its graphics to a deep purple shade to honor musician Prince and his iconic song “Purple Rain.”
