Shane Hinton joins CBS Chicago’s weather team from Miami

CBS Chicago is adding meteorologist Shane Hinton to its First Alert Weather Team, bringing him to Chicago, Illinois, from sister station WFOR in Miami, Florida.

Hinton will make his first on-air appearance Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, during CBS Chicago’s 5 a.m. newscast, though the station did not specify if that will be his regularly scheduled timeslot. 

At CBS Miami, Hinton served as a weekday meteorologist and helped launch the station’s immersive AR/VR Weather Sphere, which uses augmented and virtual reality technology to enhance weather presentations.

“Shane is an exceptional meteorologist with a proven ability to communicate complex weather in a clear, engaging way,” CBS Chicago President and General Manager Jennifer Lyons said in a statement. “Shane will be a tremendous addition to our First Alert Weather Team and to the viewers who rely on us every day.”

Before joining CBS Miami, Hinton worked in Austin, Texas, and New Bern, North Carolina. While in North Carolina, he covered Hurricane Florence, which caused widespread damage across the eastern part of the state in 2018.

Hinton earned a bachelor’s degree in meteorology and a master’s degree in atmospheric science and broadcast meteorology from the University of Miami. His research there included evaluating hurricane forecast models and analyzing forecast model performance in South Florida.

Hinton joins WBBM’s existing weather team, which includes Laura Bannon, Ed Curran, Mary Kay Kleist, Kylee Miller, Albert Ramon and David Yeomans, with Ramon serving as chief meteorologist. Curran also reports for the station.

Weather tends to be a focus area for Chicago stations, particularly during tornado season and the winter. Over the years, other stations in the market have experimented with larger meteorologist rosters, sometimes also having two forecasters on duty during the same shift.
