NBC News utilizes newsroom studio for debate coverage
While most networks used similar setups and looks for the vice presidential debate in Virginia, NBC News opted for a change from last weeks on location coverage which saw Chuck Todd and Savannah Guthrie at Hofstra University.
With Lester Holt helming the broadcast, and back from moderating the first debate, NBC’s political team lead coverage from the networks recently debuted Level 4 newsroom studio using a desk that’s served many purposes since its first use.
The V-shaped desk design allowed for multiple talent to gather in front of the studio’s large LED walls with a live shot from the debate hall behind, similar to MSNBC’s coverage of the debates.
For past events, NBC has either had its primary anchors on location or used the studio of “NBC Nightly News” with the election desk from Clickspring Design. As this was only the vice presidential debate, NBC likely didn’t see the need for such an effort, with Andrea Mitchell and Hallie Jackson in the hall on a media riser.

MSNBC had its traveling studio at Longwood University for dayside coverage, along with hits throughout the night with Chris Matthews, among others.
