On CBS, “CBS News Sunday Morning” lead with the story, including placing the words “Senator John McCain” with an American flag at the top of the show’s normal collage of topics.

The show’s normal theme music, which ends with slower and somber brass notes, proved to be a perfect transition to McCain coverage — a sound that was reminiscent of “Taps.”

The show then cut to an extreme wide shot of anchor Jan Pauley in the show’s unique set that was overhauled in October 2017.

The large vertical video panel next to Pauley included the show’s logo and lineup of stories, with McCain’s name buttressed by a flag icon at the top.
