Fox Sports reveals theme music for World Cup, new promo campaign

With less than 100 days until the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Moscow, Russia, Fox Sports has started the countdown by unveiling its original theme music alongside a new campaign.

From Russian neoclassical pianist and composer Kirill Richter, the theme song is influenced by Russia’s culture and comprised of bold, complex and emotionally-charged passages using a 23-piece orchestra, featuring strings, trumpets, cornets and a piano.

Dubbed “Where Angels Fear to Tread,” the piece was recorded in Moscow and will be featured heavily company-wide across Fox’s coverage and marketing initiatives.

“We celebrate another milestone in our journey to Russia,” said David Neal, EP for Fox’s World Cup coverage. “We are delighted to kick off the celebration by unveiling Kirill’s extraordinary FOX Sports World Cup theme music, rolling out the digital and social campaigns and implementing company-wide initiatives, helping to build momentum before the tournament begins on June 14.”

Fox will also utilize a Russian musician and DJ, Leonid Rudenko, for the tournament, helping pick beats for the network’s nightly “World Cup Tonight” recap show hosted by Fernando Fiore.

Along with the theme music, Fox Sports has rolled out a digital campaign for the games with a countdown of some of the most memorable moments along with minute-long features on World Cup hopefuls and storylines.

Additional activations include dedicated promos airing across Fox, FS1, FS2, FX, FXX, FXM and the various other Fox channels, affiliates and RSNs, along with World Cup teases in tickers, bugs and snipes.

Update: Composer Kirill Richter has now released “Where Angels Fear to Tread” for purchase and listening.
