During the recent Promax|BDA awards, Clickspring Design was honored for its CNN Election set design.

CNN charged Clickspring with realizing two primary objectives for election coverage. First: to communicate unassailable editorial expertise. The headline “CNN = Politics” established an equation for all design and production related to the election season.

The secondary objective was to create a branded alignment between multiple events — twelve debates, five primaries and election night. Green screen?
Friday, September 5th, 2008

Both conventions this year had nice graphics projected behind candidates, but the RNC took it one step further. They made the screen green so home viewers or smart YouTubers can fill in whatever they want…

This background is suppose to be of grass, but watching it appears to be one giant  key wall. Throughout most of the convention patriotic images and red graphics were shown.

GOP gears up for convention
Friday, August 29th, 2008

The Republicans are gearing up for their convention in St. Paul, Minn., but unlike the Democrats, the Republicans’ stage will be much sparser.

The stage is only four feet off the ground, unlike the Democrats’ towering setup. The key element of the Republicans setup is a 30 by 50 foot video screen directly behind the main podium.

It will be interesting to see how news organizations adapt to this different setup. From the initial shots, the floor space is at a premium and there is no cable cam in sight.

NBC has slowly begun rolling out updated graphics for the upcoming election.

The original version did not have the shiny highlights on the various elements and used black bars behind information instead of the red bar. MSNBC has also begun using some new election graphics that more closely match these.
