Kill 2 Birds developed a reimagined version of HBO’s “Movie Presentation” opening title card following the streaming debut of “Wuthering Heights” on HBO Max.
The sequence was designed around the film’s visual tone and emotional themes. The project followed previous collaborations between HBO and Kill 2 Birds tied to the streaming launches of “Minecraft” and “Superman.”
For “Wuthering Heights,” the creative direction centered on the Yorkshire Moors of Northern England, using fog, rain and textured environmental design to establish atmosphere before the film begins.
Rather than adapting the HBO brand directly into the world of the film, the sequence focused on the gradual deconstruction of the HBO logo itself. The mark was rendered in white lace, referencing the film’s campaign imagery, while red ribbons moved slowly across the typography in a visual nod to the character Cathy.
As the sequence progresses, fog and rainfall increasingly obscure the image, creating what the studio described as a restrained and emotionally charged visual environment. The final frames emphasize mood and texture through subdued motion design and layered compositing.
Kill 2 Birds handled concept development, design, animation and compositing for the project. HBO Max creative leadership included Evan Baier, creative director, and Associate Creative Directors Nadine Rivera and Marjoe Aguiling.
The project reflects a broader trend in streaming presentation design, where custom brand packaging is increasingly used to extend a film’s visual identity into platform-specific viewing experiences.
