CNN shifts graphics production to Atlanta

TVNewser reports that CNN has shuttered its New York City graphics department, shifting all graphic production functions to Atlanta.

In the same report, TVNewser cites a tipster who said the Washington, D.C. graphics team was given the same notice.

“Our current graphics software can no longer meet our business needs, and the new technology requires operation from a central location. Consequently, we are moving all graphic positions to Atlanta, where the majority of the graphics staff are based already,” the network said in a statement.  “In addition to the technological improvement, we think this new structure will be helpful to create consistency across all of our platforms.”

According to TVNewser, staffers in New York will be given the opportunity to relocate to Atlanta or take a buyout.
