Anchorage CBS station debuts new newsroom, set

KTVA-TV, the CBS affiliate in Anchorage, Alaska, has debuted its new home and NewscastStudio has an exclusive first look at some photos of the set.

The new studio, which is part of the Anchorage Daily News building, includes a set and newsroom designed by Devlin Design Group.

The second floor newsroom includes workstations surrounded by rich blues and light wood tones as well as window views. A curved wood header accented with recessed lighting running down the middle of the newsroom adds visual interest and draws the eye to the assignment desk against the far wall.

That assignment desk is backed with flat screen monitors and is fronted by an internally lit band.

Several thousand square feet of office space was renovated to allow for the new newsroom, which also boasts wavy headers that run down one and side and wrap around another. These headers are fronted with printed graphics and monitors.

The set, which is adjacent to the newsroom in a 3,000 square foot open studio, features gently curved walls that are a mix of backlit panels (some with texture added), faux stonework and wood.

As you can see in the image above, provided exclusively to NewscastStudio, multiple monitor arrays are scattered around the set and the ceiling is decorated with a large circular backlit element. In addition, a strip of white backlit accents the header, along with three hanging, internally lit fixtures.

An additional area features three vertical flat screens.

At the heart of the set is an anchor desk of converging arcs inspired by the CBS eye that allows the station to make use of multiple backgrounds, as seen in the photo above.

An additional anchor desk, this one oval shaped, is situated in front of the newsroom, as shown in the photo above, next to a wall of glass.

The studio itself is stocked with nine robotic cameras, all fully HD. The facility also includes a flashcam position near the assignment desk.

A weather center, shown in the photo above, features in L-shaped flat screen array and presentation desk and is also positioned in a prime location to allow interaction with the anchors.

You can watch the station’s full package on the new facility here (as of 6 p.m. central time, the site was extremely slow).
