Dr. Jennifer Ashton has left ABC News and “GMA3: What You Need to Know” after 13 years.

Ashton, who was the network’s chief medical correspondent, also co-anchors “GMA3,” the network’s afternoon “news you can use” show.

Ashton, who is a medical doctor certified in obstetrics, gynecology and obesity medicine, rose to prominence at ABC during the outbreak of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic

At the time, ABC aired a talk show in “GMA3” timeslot, but suspended production on it as concerns over the virus threatened the show’s studio audience format and use of in-studio anchors.

With the avalanche of news coming out of the then-novel coronavirus pandemic, the network opted to create “Pandemic: What You Need to Know” and put Ashton at the anchor desk. The show eventually shifted to covering broader topics and was renamed, but Ashton remained a co-anchor with a focus on medical news.

The network nixed the talk show format.

Ashton announced she would leave ABC in April 2024, to focus on Ajenda, a wellness company she runs.

Prior to ABC News, Ashton worked for CBS News. She joined ABC to host “The Revolution,” a wellness show, in 2012. After that show was canceled, she remained on staff as a general medical correspondent. She also has appeared “The Doctors.”
