Telemundo 31 in Orlando has announced Shirlyan Odette Rodríguez as a news anchor for “Noticias Telemundo 31,” with her on-air debut set for May.

Rodríguez will join the station’s afternoon newscasts, the company said.

She previously worked in Puerto Rico as a reporter-anchor for “Las Noticias de TeleOnce,” bringing more than a decade of experience in television journalism. Her reporting has focused on community issues and public interest stories.

Rodríguez also contributed to media projects including “Borinqueando,” a television program centered on tourism, culture and Puerto Rican identity. Her work has earned multiple recognitions from the Asociación de Periodistas de Puerto Rico and other organizations.

“Shirlyan is a talented journalist whose credibility, professionalism and connection to Puerto Rico make her a strong addition to our newsroom,” said Miguelangel Lopez, regional vice president of news and content for Telemundo 31, Telemundo 49 Tampa and Telemundo Fort Myers. “After more than a decade reporting in Puerto Rico, Shirlyan joins Telemundo 31 to continue connecting our audiences with the stories and issues that impact both the island and our communities in Central Florida.”

Rodríguez has received two Emmy Awards for her journalism. In 2025, she earned an award in the diversity, equity and inclusion category for “Más allá del silencio,” a report on challenges faced by the deaf community. She also won for “Fe sobre Ruinas,” a story about rebuilding efforts in Guayanilla following the 2020 earthquake.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in digital television production and a master’s degree in communications with a specialization in storytelling from Universidad del Sagrado Corazón.
