Kevin Roth is joining KTRK in Houston, Texas, as a full-time meteorologist after more than six years working part time at the ABC-owned station.
Roth announced the move on Facebook, reports Mike McGuff, revealing that he had maintained a separate full-time job throughout much of his tenure at ABC13. His new position will allow him to take on additional forecasting responsibilities across the station’s television and streaming platforms.
“I’ve accepted a full-time position right here at ABC13,” Roth wrote. “I love this job, I love this place. It brings me joy. Hopefully now I can bring a little more of that joy to your TV going forward.”
Roth will continue delivering weekend morning forecasts while expanding his weekday appearances. His new responsibilities will include occasional fill-in duties for morning meteorologist Elita Loresca, along with forecasts during the station’s 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. newscasts and streaming programming.
The expanded role adds another full-time meteorologist to KTRK’s weather operation as the station continues investing in severe weather coverage.
“Having Kevin around more is great for two reasons: he represents our continued investment in covering severe weather in the best way possible with the best people possible and he’s also a great human being,” Keaton Fuchs, ABC13’s vice president of news and digital, told McGuff.
Chief meteorologist Travis Herzog also welcomed Roth’s expanded role.
“What most people may only suspect, we know for sure. Not only is Kevin a great meteorologist on TV, he’s also an outstanding human being off camera!” Herzog wrote on social media. “We’re grateful to have you and thrilled to see you in the office more often!”
Roth joined KTRK in March 2020 following nearly five years in the Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas, television market.
There, he served as chief meteorologist at KDAF, the market’s CW affiliate, and provided morning forecasts for the nationally syndicated “EyeOpener” television program.
Earlier in his career, Roth worked at KSLA in Shreveport, Louisiana, from 2011 to 2013 and WABG in Greenville, Mississippi, from 2010 to 2011.
Beyond local television, Roth has developed a specialty in forecasting weather conditions for sporting events, providing analysis for The Weather Channel, SiriusXM and MLB Network.
He also spent nearly 12 years as chief meteorologist for RotoGrinders.com, producing forecasts used by daily fantasy sports participants and sports bettors.
His work for the platform focused on the potential effects of weather on Major League Baseball, NFL and PGA events, including precipitation, wind and other conditions that could affect games and player performance.
