WRMD, the Telemundo-owned station serving Tampa, Florida, has added two multimedia journalists to its newsroom, hiring Mariangeles Muñoz and Trouper Diaz.
Muñoz debuted Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, while Diaz is scheduled to begin Monday, Nov. 9, 2026.
Both journalists join the NBCUniversal Local station with experience reporting for Spanish-language news organizations, including previous assignments at Univision affiliates.
Muñoz returns to Tampa-area television after working as a multimedia journalist for Univision, where she covered breaking news, severe weather and stories affecting Spanish-speaking communities across Central Florida.
Her reporting included Hurricane Milton and its effects on the Tampa Bay and Orlando regions. She brings more than a decade of experience in television journalism, communications and digital media.
Before working in Florida, Muñoz spent more than six years with Medcom in Panama, serving as a television anchor, reporter and news writer.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and audiovisual production from Universidad Latina de Panamá and a master’s degree in corporate communication and digital marketing from Next International Business School in Madrid, Spain.
Diaz arrives from Univision Colorado in Denver, Colorado, where he covered breaking news and enterprise stories, with an emphasis on issues affecting the state’s Latino communities.
A two-time Emmy Award winner, Diaz has reported extensively on immigration, politics, public affairs and cultural issues in both the United States and Colombia.
Before moving into U.S. television news, he worked for several Colombian news organizations, including Revista Semana, Blu Radio, Cable Noticias and Las 2 Orillas.
His reporting assignments included Colombia’s peace process, national political developments and major breaking news events. He also contributed cultural coverage to “Billboard Colombia.”
Diaz graduated from Universidad EAFIT with a bachelor’s degree in communications and journalism and completed additional studies in political marketing and campaign strategies at Universidad Externado de Colombia.
“Mariangeles and Trouper bring valuable experience and unique perspectives that will strengthen our newsroom,” said Meredith Veloz, news director for Telemundo 49 Tampa, in a statement.
“Mariangeles has a deep understanding of the Tampa Bay community and the stories that matter the most to our local communities, while Trouper brings extensive experience covering politics and complex issues that impact our audiences. We’re excited to welcome them to our team.”
