How the networks covered the ‘MPR raccoon’

After blowing up social media nearly all of Wednesday, June 13, 2018, the “MPR raccoon” was shoved aside on the American network newscasts thanks to a busy news day.

Two of the broadcasts, “NBC Nightly News” and “ABC World News Tonight,” were on the field NBC anchor Lester Holt anchored from Los Angeles, a stopping point on his way back from Singapore (he made the same stopover on the way there), while ABC’s David Muir flew around the globe the opposite direction, stopping in London to anchor “World News Tonight.”

CBS Evening News” anchor Jeff Glor was “on assignment” so “CBS This Morning” co-anchor John Dickerson sat in for him in New York.

NBC aired a full package on the story toward the end of its broadcast, referencing both Spider-Man and Tom Cruise’ “Mission Impossible” franchise — complete with familiar theme music used in the background near the start of the report.
