Inside Stephen Arnold Music’s CNN International work
Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

In a recent release, Stephen Arnold talked about his recent work for CNN International:

”I-Desk is about immersing viewers into breaking stories,” said Stephen Arnold, President of Stephen Arnold Music. ”Since the news can come from anywhere in the world, the theme needed to have a broad reach in terms of instrumentation and orchestration. So our job for a show like ‘I-Desk,’ is to maintain an international flavor, without skewing the sound too heavily towards any one region.”

For “Inside Africa,” Arnold had to create a compelling intro using local beats that worked with CNN’s existing brand.

CNN tops Yahoo News for top online news site
Monday, June 14th, 2010

ComScore, an online metering and metrics company, has released new numbers which puts CNN.com ahead of Yahoo News in its “General News” category for the first time. During the month of May, CNN’s network of news sites saw 75 million unique vistors compared to Yahoo News’s 53 million. MSNBC ranked third with just over 50 million and CBS News ranked fifth.

ComScore recently changed its ranking system, which may have lead to the change on top.

ComScore just switched the way it measures Web media in way that favors CNN. Previously, it used the “panel method” only - it put software on volunteers’ computers to track their Web activity and extrapolated.

In May, ComScore switched to the “UDM Method,” which combines panel data with “a unique census-level data collection method.”

TV Web sites integrate new Facebook feature
Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Broadcasting & Cable reports that several high profile news organizations, including CNN and ESPN, have already implemented the new Facebook “social plugins” on their Web sites.

Social plugins allow third-party Web sites to integrate directly with Facebook from, in the case of TV news sites, story pages. Users can click “like” on content and that information is fed to their Facebook profile and newsfeed, as well as shared with friends.

The tool, which was unveiled Wednesday, was seen on CNN.com news stories within hours.
