Scripps Broadcasting has announced it will follow the lead of other television station ownership groups and centralize graphics operations.

The hub will be located at WFTS-TV in Tampa, Fla. Commercial traffic operations will also be hubbed in Tampa and KNXV-TV in Phoenix.

“Technology now allows the majority of these functions to be performed more efficiently through hubbing,” Scripps TV Senior VP Brian Lawlor told employees in a memo July 10, reports Broadcasting & Cable. “By establishing company-owned hubs, we are building an infrastructure that will reduce duplication of work and increase efficiency in a far more cost-effective manner.”

No word yet on what technology platform will power the centralized operations or if the group will move to a common graphic look.

Though Scripps is one of the few major ownership groups to avoid major layoffs, officials have acknowledged the hubbing move, which is expected to be operational by the fourth quarter, will result in staff reductions.
