WNBC bringing back 5 p.m. news

WNBC-TV, which canceled its venerable “Live at Five” in 2007, it re-entering the 5 p.m. newscast game.

With this announcement, WNBC-TV is moving “New York Live,” produced by the station’s entertainment and lifestyle-focused sister company LX TV, to 3 p.m.

In coverage of the announcement, the New York Daily News doesn’t mention if the station will use the “Live at Five” branding again or not, but does briefly mention the station is planning to build a new “state-of-the-art” studio.

The station moved its newscasts to a new newsroom set in 2008 at Rockefeller Plaza (which NewscastStudio felt had some homages to the Death Star), vacating its longtime home of Studio 6B, which became home to “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.” The set was later tweaked with semi-transparent panels to hide the newsroom.
