NBC Universal’s popular “TV everywhere” app for the London 2012 Olympic Games will be transitioned to a general sports app.
The “Live Extra” app has already been updated in the Apple App Store and existing users will receive the new name and content using the normal app update process.
Like the Olympics version, NBC Sports Live Extra will feature general news, short form clips, schedules and notifications for free. Subscribers who verify a cable, satellite or teleco account will also have access to live streams, replays and additional video content.
The app’s video quality will automatically adjust based on the current network connection, with resolution of up to 1080p available on iPads with Retina displays.
