Square or icon-style logos

Another common layout for avatar images is to use the square or icon-style version of a logo against a solid or similar background, but care needs to be taken with this approach to allow enough “padding” around the logo itself.

In this example, the “CBS Evening News” logo mostly fits within the circular shape, but there are few points, namely the lower right and lower left, that touch the edge of the circle.

A more jarring example is WLS’s Twitter profile — where the word “Chicago” under actually gets cut off.

The fix: Shrink the logo down so that it all fits within the circular safe area with a bit of “breathing room” as well. The background element can remain the same in most cases.
