‘Today’ adds glass logo to Studio 1A

Spotted: NBC News‘ “Today” has added a thick glass iteration of its logo to its selection of set pieces — an idea that is similar to one used at competitor “CBS This Morning.”

The dimensional logo, which appears to have made its first appearance in mid-January 2018, has mainly shown up in wide shots at the top of the “Today’s Headlines” segment that airs around 7:30 a.m. each day.

The piece, which is a half circle at the top to accommodate the show’s familiar “sunrise” icon, becomes more rectangular near the bottom where the show name appears.

It sits atop of a square-shaped pedestal that has integrated uplighting that is “caught” by the frosted surface of the logo’s shapes, typically through edge lit acrylic.

Other mobile pieces include multiple movable landscape and portrait monitors.

Competitor “CBS This Morning” has a similar dimensional logo mounted on glass that typically sits on a table in one corner of Studio 57.

The piece (or one similar to it) also made an appearance on the White House lawn when the show originated from there in May 2017.

It’s worth noting “Today” has had it a smaller, colored glass version of its logo that typically sits in the corner of the upstairs of Studio 1A, which previously served as home base for Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb’s hour of the show.

In October 2017, however, the pair’s home based was moved to one side of the area.
