CBC mixes AR with subtle scenic elements for Olympic studio

In addition to having the ability to add and change elements virtually, many of the set pieces are movable, allowing the network to create a wide variety of looks and make the studio seem bigger than it is.

The gold lattice elements, marble cube panels and lit LED rings are on a series of tracks suspended from the grid that allows them to glide past each other for a variety of final configurations.

While augmented reality plays a huge role in the CBC’s storytelling, the set also has a more intimate interview area with a fireplace and many of the modular elements found elsewhere.

“We wanted it to be a space where athletes and talent could connect and feel at ease to speak passionately and candidly — as if we were inviting the audience at home into an intimate conversation … a more relaxed and comfortable space that was rooted more in the idea of a warm living room to contrast the dynamic tech-driven graphics,” said Sanvictores.
