7. ‘Today at the White House’

Back in 2016, NBC News’ ‘Today’ visited the White House in early January shortly before President Barack Obama moved out. For the look, the network used a blend of curved arcs and bold angles set over stylized imagery of the historic building.

8. NBC and MSNBC’s ‘Star Desks’

Used for several years now, NBC and sister cable network MSNBC have what have been dubbed the “star desks” — which come in three iterations.

The largest, which is typically used by NBC, features stacks of edgelit layers that, when viewer from above, form a star that slow rotates on a central axis, creating a sort of ‘twisted’ design. The desk is lit up in red, white and blue and can be used in a smaller format or with a ‘wraparound’ element that expands the seating options.

MSNBC also has a large, curved desk fronted with horizontally mounted glass stars that can be uplit. The front of the desk is a LED ribbon. This shot, taken from the network’s 2014 election coverage, shows the old layout of Studio 3A with a temporary video wall in the corner.

There’s also a ‘baby sister’ version of the desk, with a few stars and graphical panel that has been used for a variety of purposes over the years.
