“Today” co-anchor Hoda Kotb is scheduled to anchor her last broadcast Jan. 10, 2025.
NBC plans to celebrate Kotb’s tenure at “Today” for the entire week leading up to her final day on that Friday.
Since Kotb first announced plans to leave the show, former President Jimmy Carter died at 100 and his funeral is scheduled for Jan. 9, 2024. Events for that day are scheduled to start at 9 a.m. eastern, just as Kotb will be signing off from the first two hours of “Today” and it’s likely much of the show that day will be devoted to coverage of Carter.
It was not immediately clear if coverage might pre-empt “Today with Hoda and Jenna” Jan. 9, 2024, though its east coast timeslot will hit as Carter’s casket is being moved from Georgia to Washington, D.C.
Meanwhile, NBC is planning a “Hoda-bration” for Jan. 10. The “Today with Hoda and Jenna” hour is slated to originate from Studio 8G, home of “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” The show will have a live studio audience, but tickets sold out shortly after being released.
“There will be big surprises, lots of surprises that Hoda won’t even know about,” noted co-anchor Jenna Bush Hager.
Who is replacing Hoda Kotb?
NBC previously announced that Craig Melvin, who has long served as de facto co-anchor of “Today,” would take over her chair starting Jan. 13, 2024.
Melvin is not taking over Kotb’s chair during the fourth hour of “Today,” however. NBC plans to fill that chair with rotating hosts under the name “Today with Jenna and Friends” until a permanent co-anchor can be named.
