CBS Baltimore, WJZ, has announced two on-air promotions for its weekday morning newscasts.
Amy Kawata has been named morning anchor, while Janay Reece will transition to the weekday morning team in mid-April.
Kawata had been filling in as morning anchor alongside Tim Williams, Steve Sosna and Angela Foster. She will also lead the station’s MoneyWatch franchise, focusing on consumer and financial reporting, the station said.
Kawata joined CBS Baltimore six years ago and has covered major breaking news events across the region. Reece, who joined the station in 2023, will report daily from the Alert Desk and co-host “WJZ at 9” with Williams.
“These promotions reflect the depth of our newsroom and the talent we continue to develop from within,” said Tanya Black, vice president and news director at CBS Baltimore. “Amy and Janay are trusted voices in the community; their addition to the morning newscasts will further ensure our audiences start the day informed and connected to the stories that impact their lives.”
The changes expand the station’s morning team across breaking news, weather, traffic and consumer reporting, with a focus on consistent delivery across platforms.
