Scripps News has hired former NBC News correspondent Jay Gray to serve as its senior national correspondent.
The FAST channel is part of the E.W. Scripps Company.
Gray, who brings over 20 years of journalism experience to the channel, was most recently senior national correspondent. He exited NBC in March 2026. Prior to the network, Gray worked at NBC-owned KXAS in Dallas–Ft. Worth, Texas, starting in 1993.
Prior to that, he held multiple local news reporting roles in television and print.
“Jay has spent his career on the front lines of some of the most important stories of our time,” said Matt Simon, vice president of Scripps News, in a statement. “As we broaden our national presence and strengthen our ties to local communities, Jay’s expertise and precision will be invaluable.”
Gray will continue to be based in Dallas.
Scripps News has had multiple iterations. It traces its roots back to Newsy, which it bought in 2014. In 2021, it converted to an over-the-air network, airing on digital subchannels and low-power stations. It rebranded as Scripps News in 2023.
In 2024, Scripps, citing a challenging advertising market, announced it would return to its streaming roots and cease its over-the-air operations in November. This involved laying off 200 people, though it kept around 50 staffers at its national bureau in Washington, D.C. It also draws on resources from Scripps’ local stations.
Scripps also hired former CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota earlier in 2026.
