Gray Media has hired experienced media industry veteran Joanie Vasiliadis to the newly created role of senior vice president for transformation while also promoting a news executive.

Meanwhile, the company also announced that James Finch will become senior vice president of news services, adding the “senior” to his title.

Vasiliadis will be tasked with managing the company’s “ongoing digital transformation of its content gathering, creation, workflow and distribution initiatives,” according to an announcement.

She joins Gray from Tegna, where she was vice president of content. Prior to that, she led the digital team at Tegna’s station WUSA in Denver, Colorado. Her role begins in June 2026.

Vasiliadis holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Penn State University.

Finch has been connected with Gray and its predecessor companies for the past 30 years. Prior to being bumped up to SVP, his role involved working closely with news directors at Gray’s stations, serving as a corporate liaison. He also managed relationships with vendors and supplies for both news technology and content while also working to launch the company’s newsroom training program for reporters, photographers and producers.

Finch has also served as a local news director, a corporate regional news director and trainer. A Marine Corps veteran, he started his journalism career as a military correspondent serving newspapers and the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service.
