Netflix and AMC+ will share global streaming rights to “The Walking Dead” franchise beginning in 2027 under a five-year licensing agreement valued at $500 million.
The deal between Netflix and AMC Global Media includes all 371 episodes produced across the original series and its six spinoffs.
The package covers “Fear the Walking Dead,” “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live,” “The Walking Dead: World Beyond” and “Tales of the Walking Dead.”
Individual shows will become available at different times depending on the expiration of existing licensing agreements in each market.
Netflix has carried “The Walking Dead” in the United States since 2011. The expanded agreement will bring the original series to AMC+ for the first time while extending its availability on Netflix to additional international markets, including the United Kingdom, Italy, Australia and New Zealand.
The arrangement creates co-exclusive streaming destinations for the franchise, allowing both Netflix and AMC+ to carry programming from “The Walking Dead” universe.
The Walking Dead franchise dates back to 2010, when a show of the same name debuted on the AMC linear channel. It quickly rose to become the network’s signature series and was also carried by Fox Networks Group and Disney+ outside the U.S.
“Audiences have discovered and loved ‘The Walking Dead’ on Netflix for nearly 15 years, and the show continues to attract new fans,” Lori Conkling, Netflix’s vice president of licensing, said in a statement. “We’re excited to partner with AMC Global Media to continue to expand that access to more audiences around the world and bring the entirety of ‘The Walking Dead’ universe to Netflix.”
AMC Global Media CEO Kristin Dolan said the agreement will make the franchise’s complete catalog more widely available while strengthening the company’s relationship with Netflix.
“This deal creates a global destination for this universe — all shows, all episodes — making the franchise more accessible than ever to fans around the world,” Dolan said. “In addition, the co-exclusive agreement allows us to bring the original series to AMC+ for the first time early next year.”
